CART Codes: HACK HOW WE MOVE | 24-Hour Student Hackathon
Halifax, N.S. - In the face of climate change, globalization, and inequity, transportation network and the communities they serve are becoming increasing vulnerable. Data collection and analysis are more important now than ever to establish benchmarks, quantify progress, and enact change. The complexity of these problems demands collective action to implement informed and proactive decisions and policies. Post-secondary students and recent graduates in computer science, engineering, and planning disciplines were invited to participate in the inaugural hackathon: CART Codes 2024.

Inaugural Research Showcase of the Climate Action Research for Transportation Network
Halifax, N.S. - The effects of climate change are having increasingly severe consequences across the country. Recent extreme weather events, including wildfires, flooding, and record breaking snowfalls are stark examples of the growing severity of the climate crises. As of 2022, the transportation sector accounts for 24% of Canada's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Urgent actions needs to be taken to reach the federal governments goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2025. To accomplish this goal, an all hands-on deck approach is needed. With this in mind, the CART Network was established.

17th International Conference on Travel Behavior Research (IATBR) - July 14th-18th
Vienna, Austria. - Our graduate students had an impactful presence at this years IATBR conference. Our team, led by Dr. Ahsan Habib, presented four research papers addressing a wide range of topics related to travel behavior issues in an urban context. Md Asif Hasan Anik, our Ph.D. student, presented his research titled "Activity Participation and Time Allocation: Fragmentation into Physical and Virtual Environment." He brought forward important discussion relating to the interaction of physical and virtual activities and its implication on overall travel behaviour. Md. Rifat Hossain Bhuiyan presented the work titled "Examining Online Grocery and Food Ordering Behavior Using a Latent-Class Ordered Logit Approach," which aimed to uncover the underlying factors influencing online shopping behavior to better understand its implications for policymakers in the future. Additionally, he presented another study on behalf of Hasan Shahrier, our Ph.D. student. This research focused on electric vehicle type choice based on a latent class-multinomial logit approach.
